Using Bud Vases at Your Wedding or Event (Part 1 of 2)
Bud vases are definitely very much on trend. They add perfect little touches of beauty, color and texture to your wedding or event. Depending on flower selection, bud vases can be whimsical, romantic, elegant, bohemian or give a wildflower garden vibe. They look so fetching spread across farm tables, lined across a fireplace mantels, or in a grouping on the Escort card table. Used singly, they can add a pop of color and beauty anywhere at your event. They’re highly suitable for use at your cocktail hour. So many possibilities!
Why we LOVE them
Bud vases let you see the intrinsic beauty and personality of each flower up close. There are fewer flowers in a bud vase than in a standard centerpiece, so the incredible details in each bloom stand out. They also add visual interest to your table by creating negative space around their stems. Great flowers for creating negative space include hellebores, sweet peas, ranunculus, Queen Anne’s Lace, Solomon Seal, Bleeding Heart, Astilbe, cosmos and ferns, to name just a few. Bud vases can add your signature wedding flowers across the event, making it more colorful and sweet.
How to Best Use Bud Vases
Bud vases work particularly well along farm tables, because every guest has a gorgeous flower near them, up close and personal. For intimate weddings, the bud vases can be a favor for each guest, a sweet memento indeed. Using “just” bud vases along the length of farm tables gives a simple elegance. For a more formal look, we like to place a standard compote centerpiece in the middle of a farm table, with bud vases at both ends. For a more natural look, place foliage and vines the length of the table, and intersperse the greenery with bud vases.
On a round table, bud vases can get a little lost, unless you have a good number of them (at least 5-7 or more). There’s simply not a lot of flower mass in a bud vase. Consider adding additional decor in the form of colored linens (tablecloths, runners or napkins), candles (votives and/or tapers), or colored or patterned bud vases instead of clear glass containers. These decor items will amplify the visual impact of your flowers.
If used during the cocktail hour, bud vases can easily be moved elsewhere at the reception, including the bar, Gift Table, rest rooms, etc. Bud vases in the rest rooms really show care for your guests!
